Description
The waffles are typical sweets of Romagna Tuscany, an area within the Casentinesi Forest Park.
This is a poor dessert, originally produced by the perpetuals of the various parishes of the mountain villages, through the use of irons for the hosts of the Mass.
They were cooked over the hot coals of the fireplace in the house during the winter and for holidays.
The original recipe involved the use of water, flour, sugar and wild fennel seeds ... subsequently the recipe was revisited by replacing the wild fennel seeds with aniseed.
